Couples therapy

All relationships need work, and at times more work might need to be invested. It could be a ‘tune up’, or it could be fundamental challenges. We provide a modern, personalised and kind approach to couples counselling. We work hard to develop a safe and comfortable space to allow each person to speak about what is happening for them, without judgement. We then collaborate on modern and tailored solutions together to ensure you both leave the appointment with tools and plans before the next appointment, always with communication at the core.

This is where The Psychology Talk comes in, we are the external and objective person to support, guide and facilitate healthy communication for a range of challenges in a relationship:

  • Different communication styles,
  • New parents and the changes this has on the relationship,
  • Building or rebuilding trust,
  • Feelings of stagnation, uncertainty and strress,
  • Relationship stress and conflict.

Couples counselling appointments are 90 minutes to allow each person time to speak. The Psychology Talk Couples Counselling approach is non-judgement, fair and honest with communication at the core. At the end of each appointment you will both leave with strategies to continue to develop your relationship. Each appointment builds on the previous appointment, so consistency is important to achieve relationship goals.

What to expect in our sessions

Your first appointment is about understanding you and your history better so we will focus on information gathering. This is important so your valuable time can be tailored to your needs. You will also be provided with some initial tools to help manage your symptoms before your next appointment. We discuss any questions you have. From there we will discuss a plan for ongoing appointments and confirm what your desired outcome is as well as ongoing treatment options. We understand that seeing a psychologist can be overwhelming, and it is very normal to feel nervous and even anxious. We work to provide as comfortable of an environment for you as possible. We encourage feedback on your sessions for what is working well, and what isn't. We will work with you to find the most effective approach for your mental health treatment.
